A website banner states:
Dear Reader,
My School is not ___. My classroom is too ___ and ___. I don’t like the ___ either. Please help us design a better place to learn. I want a classroom that is ___ and ___.
Thank you.
Thinking Mad Libs? Not exactly! The Open Architecture Challenge is an open design competition hosted by the Open Architecture Network every two years.
Architects and designers are tasked to partner with community organizations to address the architectural inequalities that impact the well-being of poor regions across the globe. Solutions are submitted for review and funding from partner organizations goes towards building the winning designs.
This year the challenge focused on the classroom environment. Over 10,000 people participated from more that 65 countries! On July 23, 2009, the Open Architecture Network honored the eight finalist teams. To see their designs, click here.
Make sure to check back with the The Open Architecture Challenge in September to see who won.
In the mean time:
- If you could fill in the blanks above, what would you write?
- How would you redesign your school to encourage greater learning, collaboration and health amongst your school community?
To open education and open design!
